Giving birth in a less medicalised environment: midwife’s practice or birth centre

A midwife’s practice (often called birth centre) provides an option to give birth in a less medicalised, cosier environment without having to stay at home.

Preparing for birth in a midwife’s practice /birth centre:

The personal care provided by your midwife or a small team of midwives already commences during pregnancy. As a consequence you already know the midwife / midwives who are with you during birth and for postpartum care well before the onset of labour.

As with home birth, a low-risk pregnancy is a condition for out-of-hospital birth. If complications arise during delivery, women are moved to a hospital. Often there are close cooperations between miwife’s practices/birth centres and the hospitals in their proximity.
