The postpartum period - a time of major changes

The midwife is your expert for the postpartum period! During this time, the midwife is not only dedicated to the mother’s physical healing process, but also to her psychological recovery and adjustment to the new everyday life with the baby. She is available in the early and late postnatal period, offers support with baby care and monitors the healing of the navel as well as the recovery processes in the mother’s body. She also provides advice on the important topics of breastfeeding and nutrition. In addition, the midwife is a trustworthy contact person for the processing of the birth experience and for the very individual challenges in this familiarisation phase. She can help recognise signs of postpartum depression and refer you to the right contact persons.

One-to-one care ratio

Do you know the importance of the one-to-one care ratio during labour? The Austrian Board of Midwives is in favour of a midwife accompanying a woman during the opening and exit phases of every birth and being able to attend exclusively to this birth. This leads to a reduction in complications and psychological stress for the woman giving birth. This also includes seamless handovers during shift changes and teamwork with doctors when necessary.
